Kambo, also known as 'Vaccina de Floresta' or the ‘vaccine of the jungle’ by indigenous tribes, is a natural medicine from the rainforests of the upper Amazon, renowned for its profound healing properties. It is the secretion of a large green tree frog known as Giant Green Monkey Tree Frog. Its scientific name is Phyllomedusa Bicolor – Phyllo meaning ‘leaf and medusa, meaning ‘guardian’. This ancient remedy offers an array of potential benefits, making it one of the most sought-after ways to boost the immune system and promote overall well-being.
As a proud member of the International Association of Kambo Practitioners (IAKP), I find immense value in the harmonious blend of Indigenous wisdom and traditions with Western safety practices. The IAKP stands as a testament to the importance of honoring Kambo's ancient roots while ensuring a safe and supportive environment for all those seeking its healing benefits.
The Kambo ceremony will take approximately 3 hours. We will start with a short meditation or breathwork or there is an option of receiving a dose of Rapé. Rapé is an ancient Amazonian medicine that connects us to the spirits of the forest and also to the power of the energy of Yushibu, the God of Creation. Rapé is used in many ways, but when given at the beginning of the ceremony to ground and center and relax the mind. After which we will begin by setting your intention for the ceremony. I will explain the entire process, ensuring you feel informed and comfortable.
We will decide together on the number of gates (points where the Kambo will be applied) and their placement on your body. The gates will be gently burned on the top layer of your skin using an incense stick. The skin will blister, creating access to the lymphatic system, allowing the Kambo secretion to enter your body.
Before placing the Kambo, you will drink up to 2 liters of water. As a precaution, I will start with a test point to gauge how your body responds to the medicine before applying the full dosage. Once the Kambo is applied, the process will last 20 to 40 minutes. During this time, I will hold space for you and provide support through music, instruments, White Sage, Palo Santo, or Rapé.
Once the Kambo is applied, the cleansing process begins, guiding you on a journey of profound transformation. Kambo initiates purging, and these releases come in various forms, each carrying its unique significance. Here are some ways the cleansing process may manifest: vomiting, bottom purge, yawning, laughing, sweating, shaking, vocal purge, runny nose and emotional purges like crying or anger.
After removing the Kambo, I will dress the gates with dragon's blood, known for its antifungal, antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties, aiding in wound healing and forming a natural bandage.
You will have time to rest, integrate, or even take a short nap. I will provide a hot water bottle and accompany you with music during this period. You may also choose to experience Sananga, which you are free to accept or decline. Sananga is a traditional Amazonian eye medicine made from shredded root of a shrub that grows in the rain forest. These powerful eye drops operate on many levels of healing: physical, spiritual and energetic.
We will conclude the ceremony with a sharing session. I will offer a warm soup to nourish your body and replenish electrolytes.
Kambo's unique and individualized journey allows you to confront and release aspects that no longer serve you, paving the way for a renewed sense of self and profound transformation. I serve Kambo in a ceremonial setting. Throughout the ceremony, I will be there to support and guide you, ensuring a safe and nurturing space.
